The Aftermath of Greed
"The mountain is becoming barer and more desolate. The change is not due to illegal logging--the Korean Forest Service is cutting down trees!"
When I heard the news, I couldn’t believe what I’d heard. Cutting down perfectly healthy trees was certainly an absurd idea, but the government officials kept arguing that trees older than thirty years are incapable of reducing carbon emissions and thus cut down old trees to plant young ones instead. Experts belatedly pointed out that the government's policy is wrong, but by this time the mountain had already been devastated. Now, thirty years need to pass for the forest to become dense again. I already miss the mountain’s green beauty, which has unfortunately been damaged by human greed.
